Hood Cup Final

Mixed Foursomes

Sunday 30th August we saw the conclusion of the Hood Cup (Mixed Winter Foursomes). Having lost most of the summer due to Covid-19 the final took part between Alison Nielson & John Eason, playing Dermot Cronin & Sam Cooper.
The match referee was Jan Hammett who was not called upon, both pairs thanked her and appreciated her giving up her Sunday afternoon.
Sam and Dermot were on a mission and were 4 up at the turn, Alison and John fought back on the back nine, and it was a really great battle but they lost the match on the 16th.
Tomorrow the Hood Plate Final is being played between Tony Moore and Yvette Guy against Peter and Ann Lewis.

Haskell win

at Thorpeness Saturday 18th may

Lils James and Sam Cooper played the 1st round of the Haskell away to Thorpeness.

It was a very tight match losing the morning round by one on the last hole.

Th after noon started well with Lils and Sam winning the first hole to bring it back all square. Getting stuck behind a large society, concentration started to go and Lils and Sam found themselves four down. Digging deep they pulled it back to all square going down the last. This was halved which took the match onto extra holes.

Lils and Sam had one the first hole on both previous rounds so were happy to have the honour and put the home side under pressure. A great drive from Lils down the centre of the fairway left Sam the same chip she had had previously.
Thorpeness ended up playing three off the tee and with Sam's chip safely on the green the match was given to Bungay.

Thanks to the caddies Tony James and Wendy Walpole and all the supporters that travelled over.

Dermot Cronin the Men's Captain of Bungay & Waveney Valley Golf Club has chosen Big C as his charity of the year for 2019.

Cancer is something that has affected me personally in the past and 2018 was a particularly difficult year with many family and friends being treated for or succumbing to this terrible disease. It is also something that I know affects many of our club members and their families and friends.

Raising funds for the Big C will help provide the people of Norfolk & Waveney with access to the best treatment and support in their local areas.

Today, Big C Centres are there for anyone affected by cancer – providing first-hand support, information and a listening ear to those who need it.

For tomorrow, Big C funds local research into cancer and invests in vital diagnostic and medical equipment and facilities in local hospitals, bringing better care for local people, closer to where they live.

I think it is a very worthy cause which provides invaluable services and support to the people of Norfolk & Waveney and all our club members and their families.

At the Captains Drive-In on New Years day members and guests contributed £133.50 to the Big C.

A find raising page for the year has been set up with the Big C at https://fundraise.big-c.co.uk/fundraising/fundraising-pages/bungay-and-waveney-valley-golf-club/

Presentation Evening

In the Ladies section notable winners were Lils James (3), Di Randall (3), Wendy Walpole (4) and
Jo Moore (4) and nine men received individual awards.
In the Junior section Jake Drage, in his first competition, won the Cubs Order of Merit Trophy.
Liam Hansey won 4 trophies in Junior events, including the Junior Championship and the Division 1 Order of Merit.
However, Liam’s evening saw him collect 3 more trophies won in the Men’s Competitions, and with partners, to win the Mixed  and
Men’s Knockouts.
The highlight of his year was to win the Men’s Championship, taking the Ronald Wightman Trophy for the best Gross and the Doug Mattocks’
Handicap Trophy. Liam is a still a Junior and he is the youngest on record, to win both trophies in the same year.  He has reduced
his handicap and it is to his credit, that his achievements have arisen through practice, determination and the support of his Club and Family.
The photo shows Liam with his trophies.

Lady Captain's Drive In

The new Lady Captain Heather Squirrell held a 10 hole competition for the Ladies prior to seeing the previous Captain, Jo Moore, putt out. Living up to her name, she arrived on the tee, much to the delight of the Ladies, suitably dressed as a ‘Squirrell’.
She managed a drive of 103.5 yds and members were asked to guess the distance she would drive the ball, with all donations going to her Charities. Sue Strutt-Holmes won the first prize with a guess of 103yds. Di Randall & Ann Kemp took 2nd & 3rd places and very fittingly, the prizes included a ‘bag of nuts’
Results of the 10 hole ‘Waltz’ competition are as follows:
1st Bridget Collings, Debbie Jary & Sally Mattocks – 39pts.
2. Wendy Green, Jackie Moore & Linda Peaford –37pts
3. Marilyn Pearson, Janet Skinner & Ann. Brett  - 35pts

Junior Captain Honoured

Our Junior Captain Liam Hansey has been presented with the 'Sam Jaggard' Trophy.

This is presented in memory of a County Junior player who sadly passed away in a car accident a few years ago.

The trophy went to an U16 Junior (last seasons performance) who the Junior committee felt was a role model figure in County, producing consistent results and conducting them self in a respectful and well mannered way, along with being enthusiastic throughout the season.

It is also a proud moment for Liam, as his was the first name brought up by the County Junior Committee, and it is understandable that Liam was delighted to receive it!

Congratulations Liam, leading by example. Well done.

Vets Friendly v Dunston Hall

The Vet's hosted Dunston Hall in a friendly Weds 15th March.
